Wood Engravings

A couple of years ago, I was asked to create a wood engraving. The process is quite different from creating multi block coloured linocuts. It made me rethink mark making.

I visited one location and drew lots of bit and pieces in my sketch book. Then back in the studio what could I achieve on the 10cm wood block?

Could the detail be used more effectively on the lino block? Hence the Salthouse I & II wood engravings and their linocut partners 'Salthouse snow buntings' and 'Salthouse wigeon’.

Since the wood engravings, The ‘Red Admirals’ linocut original print is a fusion of both linocut and wood engraving techniques on the same image".
